Technology and Security for Manufacturing
Modernise the plant without opening it to attackers.
Manufacturers are connecting production systems to enterprise networks and the cloud to get the data that drives efficiency, quality and predictive maintenance. That connection also exposes operational technology that was designed decades ago with no security model at all. The result is a security problem that spans both worlds and a delivery problem for the software teams building on top of plant data.
We help manufacturing companies modernise safely: assessing OT and IT networks together, designing segmentation and monitoring aligned to IEC 62443, integrating MES, SCADA and ERP data into reliable pipelines, running DevOps practices for the software that runs alongside production, and building AI models for maintenance and quality on the data that results.
What Manufacturing Teams Are Up Against
The problems below come up in almost every manufacturing engagement we take on. Recognising them early is most of the work of solving them.
OT and IT convergence
PLCs, SCADA systems and industrial PCs running unsupported operating systems now sit one network hop from corporate email. Segmentation and monitoring are the first line of defence.
Legacy systems that cannot be patched
Production equipment cannot be taken offline for updates and often cannot be patched at all. Compensating controls and network design must carry the risk.
Supply chain and vendor access
Equipment vendors, integrators and logistics partners need remote access. Every such connection is a potential entry point and must be controlled and logged.
Data integration across plants
Getting consistent, timely data from multiple sites and systems into a form that analytics and AI can use is an engineering project in its own right.
Awareness on the plant floor
Operators and engineers are targeted through USB media, phishing and social engineering. Training that reflects plant realities is more effective than generic office content.
How We Help
Each of these maps to one of our services, delivered by the same team so nothing falls between vendors.
OT/IT security assessment
Passive discovery and careful testing of industrial networks, review of segmentation, remote access and vendor connections, with findings mapped to IEC 62443 and prioritised by production impact.
Data pipelines and platform engineering
Reliable ingestion from MES, SCADA historians and ERP into a governed data platform, with infrastructure as code, monitoring and disaster recovery for plant-adjacent systems.
Predictive maintenance and quality AI
Models trained on sensor and quality data to predict failures and defects, deployed with monitoring so drift is caught before it costs a shift.
Awareness for plant and engineering staff
Training built around plant scenarios: removable media, vendor visits, remote access requests and phishing that references real suppliers and systems.
ISO 27001 and IEC 62443 alignment
Policies and controls that cover both enterprise IT and production systems, with evidence structured for customer audits and certification.
Typical Engagements
- OT/IT security assessment and segmentation design for a multi-plant manufacturer
- Secure remote access architecture for equipment vendors
- MES and ERP data pipeline into a cloud analytics platform
- Predictive maintenance model for critical production lines
- Plant-floor security awareness programme
Manufacturing Questions, Answered
Will security testing disrupt production?
No. OT assessments rely on passive discovery, configuration review and testing in maintenance windows or on replicas. Active scanning of live control systems is never done without explicit agreement.
Our equipment runs old operating systems. What can be done?
Isolate it. Network segmentation, strict access control, monitoring and application whitelisting reduce the risk substantially even when patching is impossible.
Do you understand industrial protocols?
Yes. Our assessments cover Modbus, OPC UA, PROFINET and similar protocols, and the ways they are commonly exposed through poorly segmented networks.
Can you connect our plant data to the cloud securely?
Yes, through a data diode or one-way collection pattern where appropriate, with encryption, identity management and no inbound paths into the control network.
